Description: General Specs: L.C. Smith, Year 1928, 16 Gauge, 6lb 9oz, Chokes .023/ .034 IM/F, LOP 14 1/8", DAH 2 3/4", DAC 1 9/16" Serial Number: FWE109780

Between the years 1912 to 1945 Hunter Arms Company manufactured 4,460 16-gauge Ideal Grade guns, 2,632 shipped with 28" barrels. The Ideal Grade is not rare, so how do you know which one to buy? IT IS EASY TO BUY THE WRONG GUN WITH COSTLY ISSUES. At Vintage Firearms, Inc. (VFI) we inspect each gun before purchase, our 4 gunsmiths clean and service each gun as needed. In addition, VFI GUNSMITHS HAVE CAREFULLY MEASURED THE BARREL WALL THICKNESS AHEAD OF THE CHAMBER, AND WHENEVER IT IS SAFE, HAVE LENGTHENED THE CHAMBERS TO 2 ¾” AND EXTENDED THE FORCING CONES TO 1 ½” TAPERS SO THAT YOU CAN SHOOT MODERN 2 ¾” FIELD LOADS. This is a $360 service in our shop. Modern chambers and long forcing cones makes for safe shooting with softer recoil and better patterns, which benefit the shooter and preserve the integrity of these fine older doubleguns. Other important factors when buying a shotgun is the condition of the metal, screws, wood, and bores. We provide the most comprehensive photography and specifications in the marketplace to guide you in making an informed choice. Just remember, nowhere is it more apparent than in the gun world…you get what you pay for! If you want an upland gun you can rely on, buy one that is field ready and can safely shoot modern, available field loads.

This 16ga Ideal, snFWE109780 manufactured in 1928, shipped from the Fulton workshops with ejectors. It’s a fine example of LC Smiths ‘General purpose’ gun, fitted with nicely figured English Walnut and case colored action. The checkering is in great condition. The barrels are choked Improved Mod and Full, they are tight on hinge pin and breech face, the bores are mirror smooth, with the top lever way right of center guaranteeing many years of service. The barrel shows some field wear on its undersides. The action retains 95% factory original case color with silvering around the balance point. The vine and leaf motifs remain sharp and clear. The trigger guard retains 97% factory finish, wood to metal fit is superb around the action. An elegant looking shotgun in profile this gun looks fast, its fine splinter forend with ebony wedge and capped pistol grip gives it real purpose. The gun balances forward of the pin and has modern dimensions that would favor the left-hand shooter with cast on of 1/8" (If you would like different dimensions Vintage Firearms offers a stock bending service to perfectly fit the gun to you, please call us with any questions). SEE SPECIFICATIONS OF THIS GUN BELOW. This double is ready for another one hundred years of action- the Ideal gun! Thank you for looking, enjoy.
