BARNES of BOSTON, MA. It appears to be a .66 caliber musket. This rifle, circa 1850, would make an attractive wall hanger. Its engraved barrel shows gold and silver colors. THIS IS A MUST SEE! 29” smooth bore barrel is good showing a nice brown patina. Bore is good with surface wear. Barrel has a light top rib which ends with handsome engravings as it reaches the breech. Engravings show traces of silver and gold colors. Side lock shows floral engraving with a clearly marked “W.H. BARNES / BOSTON”. Hammer cocks back and holds; working trigger function releases hammer with strong force. Both trigger guard and butt plate show decorative design and engraving. Metal parts show light signs of oxidation. This original full-length stock is in fair to good condition. It has been cracked and pinned several times over its history; This only adds to the charm!
