Description: US M1808 Military Contract Musket Unmarked War of 1812 M1808 US Contract Flintlock Military Musket, .69 cal smoothbore mfg. ca. 1809. This totally unmarked M1808 musket remains in fantastic all original condition and is a great example of the type used by state militia units during the War of 1812. The barrel measures 42 1/8" long and features a bayonet stud. Overall the metal as a smooth "white" appearance which is just slightly drifting to plum. The wood retains a pleasingly untouched dark finish showing moderate wear throughout. Aside from an old worn 3" sliver missing from the left forward edge of the forestock accompanied by a thin 1" sliver on the opposite edge the wood is in excellent condition overall with no further damage or repairs. Original buttplate, sideplate, triggerguard, barrel bands & springs with brass blade front sight, and sling swivels. The ramrod too is original. The action is very crisp and functions flawlessly. The frizzen snaps shut and springs forward securely. Overall a very honest, original, and attractive musket that surely saw use in the War of 1812. Recently obtained from antique arms dealer in Connecticutt.
