This item has a part round / part octagon 30” barrel, adjustable mid-range tang sight, globe type front sight, double set triggers and checkered wood stocks with a short pronged off-hand type butt plate. The bore is in nice shape, a bore-scope revealed very light pitting in the barrel with the lands and grooves still very pronounced and in great condition for an item of this age. The first 10” of the barrel ahead of the receiver is octagon in shape and the remaining length is round. The metal finish on the barrel shows some light scratches and light wear as well as freckling but otherwise is mostly intact. The color case hardening on the receiver is no longer visible, freckling and very, very light pitting are visible on the exterior. With the lever open, color case hardening can be seen on the breech block. The lever shows freckling and some very light pitting is visible with just a hint of color case hardening intact. The nickle finish on the butt plate is nearly all gone with only a remnant remaining intact. The fore end shows light dings and scratches in the wood, the checkering shows some wear. The butt stock shows scratches and light dings in the wood, the checkering shows some wear. The wood stocks show no visible chips or cracks. Overall, this rifle in in great condition for 127 or so years old. Included in the pictures is an early Ballard/Marlin advertisement from that era.
