Tompkins, Springfield Mass. single shot .22 pistol. Mfg by Varsity MFG. Co. between 1947 and 1953 Serial # 168 of only 200 made. From the late number I would assume it was closer to 1953 than 1947. Hinge breech, 8" barrel, target sights. The bore is shiny with sharp lands and grooves. No frosting or pits. The receiver metal bluing is about 95% and shows wear on the sharp edges. There are a two nicks in the ribs on the right side of the breech block and the hammer shows some tarnish marks. The trigger guard retains about the same amount of blue with freckling and light scratching. The screw slots are sharp. I don't know if the barrel was polished blue originally. This one has a dull Blue/Grey finish with some freckling and very small shiny spots and rub marks. This pistol was not a safe queen, it was shot. The wood shows handling marks but no cracks, splits, or gouges. Overall a 93%-95% example of a rare .22 pistol. The auction "sold" prices, with the premium, that I could find have been more than a thousand over this price. You will of course have a 3 day inspection period.
