Description: Up for auction is a beautiful Swedish Mauser, Model 1896, in 6.5x55mm manufactured in 1917. It has all matching numbers with clear and sharp national crest on the receiver as well as the military proof marks. The bore shows no wear: it's in the same condition as the exterior of the rifle, which you can clearly see from the attached pictures. The 6.5 calibers are all the rage now, and the 6.5 Creedmore is the "talk of the town." The 6.5 Creedmore and the 6.5 Swedish are very similar; the only difference is that the 6.5 Creedmore has longer legs. However, the Swedish cartridge shares the same virtues as the Creedmore: lower recoil, flatter shooting, excellent accuracy. And the Swedes are known and respected for their engineering prowess and construction quality, and this Mauser-based design is a classic example of the long-lost Old World standard of superior craftsmanship. I, and others as well, think that this rifle compares favorably in its quality of construction to some of the modern day custom rifles that sell for $1000's. This particular example still has its original bluing--without any rust or pitting or shiny spots. The wood is a rich walnut color with the matching wood grain showing clearly through on both stock and handguard. There are no splits, cracks, gouges, or any other noticeable cosmetic defect. It comes with its own cleaning rod and the brass regimental tag on the butt stock. These are highly collectible rifles now, but not very easy to find anymore, especially in this condition. These are fun shooters and easy to hand load for. No one's collection is complete without a Swedish Model 96. (I've included a couple of photos from a recent range session indicating the potential of this rifle. The photos are to indicate what a very average shot (me) using iron sights at a moderate range can do with practice quality ammunition. I am no marksman; quite the contrary. And my eyes are failing with age. So, you should look on these results as possibly the worst possible. Better shooters will have much better results than I. These pictures are only a very rough indication of the rifle's potential.) (lay-a-way is available upon request)
