Sweden adopted the German Mauser 1896 version with modification. Without tooling, the first few years [I believe 1898 and 1899] the Swedish version was mfg'd by Mauser using Swedish not German steel. Originally manufactured as the 6.5mm Swedish version Mod. 96, then later converted to the shorter 96/38 configuration by Stockholm Arms Station [crown over S, proof mark bottom barrel next to receiver]. All important numbers match. No rust or pitting. Bluing is 98%. During the S.A.S. rework, it appears the bolt release and the floor plate were replaced [those two numbers do not match- all others to match] See photos. Receiver is marked "WAFFENFABRIK MAUSER OBERNDORF A/N" over the date 1899. Stock is proofed "OB" over Swedish Crown, aft of the normal Swedish crown acceptance mark. The barrel is bright with strong lands. The plastic muzzle cap is to protect the muzzle threads. Threads are for adoption of the Swedish blank firing attachment. The stock appears to be maple- rare for Swedish Mausers. The stock is unsanded and smooth to the touch. The texture and grain of the wood shows highlights typical of Maple. No serious dents. From photo of right butt, if you run your hand there, there is a barely detectable indentation forward of the disk. The butt show a small repair in the bottom corner. Swedish Mausers are known for excellent accuracy and craftsmanship. PAYMENT OPTIONS: I accept USPS Money Orders and personal/business checks. I will also accept certain Paypal.
