Like the Germans, the Italians had all their firearms confiscated by the Allies, following their surrender. Of course, to reestablish police forces, the Italians needed firearms. The US loaned them M1 Carbines fresh from WWII battles, along with hand guns, to arm the Italian Police. The Italian military had their arsenal, Terni, inspect and repair when necessary and this one has the "FAT" Terni mark on the butt stock. An M2, 30 round magazine was used. Standard Products US contracted Carbines used Underwood made and marked barrels. This one has "Underwood" on the barrel, along with the 1943 date of manufacture and the US Ordnance Bomb stamp. The carbine is exceptional and by all indications, was not heavily used by the Italians, before being returned to the US Arsenal and released for sale. contact sashe at cfl. rr. com for more photos and/or details.
