For sale is a C96 German Mauser Pistol, commonly known as the "broomhandle", with wooden stock/Pistol case. The pistol is chambered for the 7.63 X 25 MM Mauser cartridge.
This C96 Mauser has two serial numbers. 281036 which appears on the barrel and the grip frame. The first serial number 281036 was manufactured between 1915 and 1921. The second serial number 260795 which appears on the Bolt and hammer. Serial number 260795 was manufactured between 1911 and 1915.
The right side of the frame is marked WAFFENFABRIK MAUSER OBERNDORF A. NECKAR. The barrel is marked WAFFENFABRIK MAUSER OBERNDORF A/N.
Has a 5.5 inch smooth contoured barrel, 281036 serial number on diagonal flat of the barrel and on the back of the frame with a second serial number, 260795, on the back of the lock frame that does not match, it has a step frame, the hammer is the small ring (which is correct for early style), hole through safety knob (which is also correct for early style), lanyard ring pivots fore and aft, there are 31 groves in the walnut grip panels, there are no markings on the left side panel. The rear sight is graduated from 50 to 1000 meters, the magazine plate is stamped 036, the magazine spring is broken, and Proof stamps are located on the left and right side of the barrel chamber.
The wood stock connects and functions correctly when attached to the Mauser Pistol. It is correct for the same period as the Mauser Pistol. The stock does have small cracks on the left and right side where the stock attaches to the Mauser Pistol. There are cracks on both sides where the release button is located on the stock. The lid has no crack or dings. I AM NOT AN EXPERT ON THE C96 MAUSER BUT I BELIEVE THE STOCK HAS BEEN VARNISHED. FROM IMAGES I HAVE SEEN THE STOCKS HAD A NATURAL FINISH.
The Mauser functions perfectly and all parts work except for the magazine spring.
There is also a 50 round box of 7.63, full jacketed ball ammo, made in Italy and never fired. There is also a Broomhandle Mauser Manual, by R.J. Berger.
