If we can trust internet information this is a Frontier Army third model produced between 1883 and 1887. It is stamped calibre Winchester 1873 and if my research is correct that would translate to .44-40 Winchester which is the correct bore size. This is a very unusual design whereas the barrel and cylinder rotate sideways for loading. Additionally the hammer spur folds to allow the snag free benefits of a bobbed hammer. The level of accuracy that was achieved is truly astonishing, considering the time. Both grip panels are chipped in the area of the lanyard ring on the butt and although the mechanisms appear to function properly and it locks up very nice and tight tighter than most new guns however the bore is dark and pitted. That being said we consider any gun of this era to be unsafe to load or fire unless getting a full blessing from a qualified gunsmith.
