Bid: Time Left: (Ended) Shipping: $55.00 Accepted Payment Methods: Returns: No Returns Description: Up for auction is perhaps the last of the cache of WW 2 German 98K Mausers brought into the country a couple of years ago. This cache consisted of a very small lot of Russian capture 98 K's that had been set aside for all these years. And this is a beautiful example from that very limited lot. This one is dated 1939 and stamped with the "147" manufacturer's code. As with all Russian capture Mausers, the numbers don't all match, but in this case the stock, receiver, and barrel match. The bolt is electro-penciled to match. It has the laminated stock (which is not as pretty as the solid wood, but much more sturdy) and the solid butt plate, as per original specifications. It retains the bluing on the bolt and butt plate, which is original specifications. Bore looks to be good, from what I can tell with a bore light. It retains most of the Waffen acceptance stamps on the receiver (I don't see any strike-outs) The wood is in really great condition: no cracks, chips, gouges, dings, etc. Bluing also is remarkable: I'd rate it at about 95%: just a little fading around muzzle and front sight band. This is one of the early Mauser 98's, made before wartime conditions forced cuts in manufacturing processes. This may be one of the last true German WW2 Mausers to come on the market. These are getting increasingly hard to find, and they continue to rise in price. If you've ever wanted one of these wartime gems, this may be your last chance. These rifles are becoming more of an financial investment than a hobbyist's indulgence. More pictures are available upon request.
