This Ruger New Vaquero is literally a rare bird. Photo specimen is one of only 3 we were able to get our hands on. As the photos show, this Vaquero is distinctive because of its short barrel and Birdshead style grip frame. What is even more distinctive is that it is chambered, not for .45 Colt, but for .45 ACP caliber ammunition only. Manufacturer is Sturm Ruger of Southport, CT. This 05154 / NVBH-453A cataloged variant was made exclusively for Talo Distributors of Framingham, MA. Construction is entirely blue steel, but with .312 smooth faced stainless trigger and .500 serrated short spur matching hammer. This revolver holds 6 rounds of .45 ACP Caliber ammunition. It will not chamber .45 Colt or .45 GAP calibers. Type is Single Action Only revolver, reminiscent of the Colt Single Action Army, only with transfer bar safety mechanism. Note the shortened cylinder pin, required for disassembly clearance against the shorter ejector rod lever. Barrel is 3 3/4 inch 1:16 rifled; many of us call this size a Sheriff’s Model. Weight empty is 40 ounces, with center of gravity just forward of the trigger. Grip panels are factory logo, special edition Talo black and gray laminate with faint grooves.
