Description: Very good condition of this classic target rifle. Bore is perfect, mirror bright and with sharp rifling. The action is smooth and tight. Comes with a single shot magazine but 5 shot mags are available. The trigger pull is light and crisp and is adjustable. The owner told me his father was a "gunsmith" at the Remington factory in Connecticut and that he built this rifle for himself many years ago. It is a regular Remington Model 37 Rangemaster bolt action rifle except for the 28" bull barrel from Eric Johnson, who was a renowned barrel maker in the 1940's and 50's. It also has Redfield Olympic micrometer target sights, the barrel was never drilled or tapped for scope sights. It has sling swivels and checkered metal butt plate designed for prone shooting, comes with a heavy duty sling (not pictured). The stock has a tight, hard to see, crack behind the trigger guard that ends in the pistol grip area. This gun will shoot just fine as is or epoxy will make it invisible, see pictures. The safety lever is removed from the bolt, this was common practice back in those days. Sorry I don't have the piece. This is a great target rifle and also a real piece of American shooting history from the earlier days of target shooting in the USA. It is interesting to note that Remington Co. used these Model 37's equipped with Eric Johnson barrels in their ammo plants as test guns, so who knows, maybe this is one of those. If so, they didn't shoot it too much! C&R license is fine on this gun in most states.
