From one of our fellow FFLs on the East Coast comes excellent set of Factory Smith & Wesson Goncalo Target Stocks for any Smith & Wesson N Frame Square Butt Revolver. If any shoppers don’t know the difference between a Square Butt and Round Butt Revolver, please see the attached photo. These are Factory Smith & Wesson Target Stocks. This set is distinctive because its butt area is about 3/8 inch shorter than standard, and we believe these came from the factory like they are. Construction is Brazilian Goncalo Alves wood with Nickel Plated Factory Screw and Logo Escutcheons, and brass nut hardware. These grips are marked inside, but not dated. We estimate they are mid 1970s production. The left panel was NOT recessed to accept Speedloader use, that did not begin until the early to mid 1980s for N Frames. The upper left panel only has a thumb rest indentation, No Cut, as we say. These grips are period correct for any N Square Smith & Wesson manufactured between the late 1960s, when the diamond pattern checkering ended, and the mid 1980s, when Smith & Wesson put the speedloader cut into place on all its N frame Target Stocks. This set has a Tru Oil Refinish. Their length difference from standard will not be conspicuous when they are installed on a 4 inch 29 or 629 revolver. We rate them otherwise as Excellent Refinish, but photos ought to suffice for our shoppers to judge finish grade for themselves. These grips will fit models 21, 24, 25, 27, 28, 29, and those revolvers 6 prefix stainless variants, but only the ones with Square Butt Grip Frames. They will not fit an N Frame Smith & Wesson with a round butt grip frame. They will not fit a K frame like a model 19, or an L frame like a model 686.
