Description: Carbine or not, it's a 20 incher, down from the maximum 24 inch; a happy medium between that and the 16 incher. From an estate collection comes this very attractive Marlin 39A Carbine. From its P2000 range serial number, it was manufactured in 1957. Manufacturer was The Marlin Firearms Co. – Est. 1870 / New Haven, CONN. USA, and so marked on the barrel. Construction is entirely steel metal with American Walnut stock and forend. Model is 39A, Take Down Rifle or Carbine. Configuration is Mountie type. Barrel is 20 inch, with 1:16 12 groove Micro-Groove bore, also so marked; marked .22 S – L – LR as well. Sights are original hooded screw on serrated ramp front, with step elevator dovetailed rear. Magazine is tube type, and holds 20 Short, 16 Long, or 15 Long Rifle caliber cartridges interchangeably. Trigger is .289 smooth faced, pulls single stage at 3 pounds with negligible felt creep. This early 39A does not have any safety other than its transfer bar. Forend is original early sowbelly type. Stock is Mountie type straight wrist, length of pull is 13 1/2 inches to the end of the white lined original butt plate. Drop is 1 1/2 by 2 1/8 inches, with a slight 1/2 inch right hand cast. Overall length is 36 3/4 inches; weight is 6 pounds, centered at the breech face. Finish is polished surface blued steel barrel, laterals and furniture with matte blued receiver verticals. Walnut is original semi gloss oil finish. Surface detractions are minimal to moderate, principally edge wear and occasional light stock scouring. Note that the filler screws are missing atop the receiver, which probably indicates scope use at some point; and the easily replaceable white stud plug has exited the buttstock. We rate this Marlin as Very Good, 80 to 85 percent vicinity by our estimate, but photos ought to suffice for our distinguished shoppers to judge finish grade for themselves. Bore and mechanism are excellent. This rifle comes from its original home territory here in what we call Tennessippi. It is attractive, collectable, and eminently serviceable. We’re offering it for $ 1259.00. C&R Eligible.
