Description: Springfield 1st ;Model Trapdoor Rifle 45-70 cal Bore Exc, Mech Exc, Wood VG plus with circle P and oval cartouche. Also has the long wrist. Has the US marked buttplate. The wood has a marking on the right side of the stock near the buttplate MTU 199. Serial#39024 puts it in the custer range. Springfield research has it 5 numbers away from Dept of the Platte rifle. Platte is the Military Administrative District 1866 Boundaries which were Iowa, Nebraska,Dakota territory and Utah Territory and a small portion of Idaho. Has an original barrel with original sights, very small proofs and ramrod, sling swivels and bands. The bolt is the high arch with Model 1873 crossed arrows US . The lockplate is correct with the eagle and US Springfield 1873 date. Also has the correct trigger being smooth. The hammer is a latter style with the shield . Metal overall has an aged grey patina finish with a little fine pitting mainly on the buttplate.
