Here is the most durable reincarnation of the fabled Winchester 1892 Lever Action rifle on the market, the Rossi R92 chambered in .357 Caliber, manufactured in Brazil by Taurus's Rossi holdings and imported by Braztech in Miami. This one is in Stainless Steel, semi-gloss and not terribly different from classic gun metal gray originals; other than that, its only departure from the classic 1892 design is a hammer block safety, mounted unobtrusively on top of the bolt just forward of the hammer. This rifle also has parent company Taurus’s internal hammer lock. Metal is entirely stainless steel. Forend and buttstock are walnut stained Brazilian hardwood, very close to real walnut. Buttplate is stainless steel as well. Barrel is 24 inches long, and capacity is 12 +1 rounds of .357 Magnum or .38 Special ammunition. Weight empty is a well balanced 7 pounds 8 ounces, with the center of gravity beneath the rear sight. Overall length is 42 inches. This specimen comes in a factory box marked, Factory Reconditioned. It carries, writes the label, the Exclusive Braztech Functional Repair Policy, but not on its finish. We know of no one who warrants finish anyway. We do not detect any finish weakness whatsoever, apart from lever operation marking; and this Rossi is in its factory box just like it recently left the Miami warehouse, with its manual and keys for its internal lock. We rate it as Mint or Near Mint and unfired, but photos ought to suffice for our shoppers to judge finish grade for themselves. We have not cleaned it; any residue in the bore or chamber comes from test firing in Miami at the Braztech Facility. Replacement pricing on this type rifle runs from $600 to $1000 apiece in our area.
