Here is the Sig Sauer P6, modified for training by the West German Federal Police, attest its markings. PWA Import stamp is on slide’s left side. Production dates on these pistols ranged from 1978 to 1981. Parts will interchange with old model P225, discontinued in 1998, but NOT with the new P225A1. All P6 and P225 pistols are 9mm Parabellum caliber. Type is traditional hammer fired double and single action semi automatic pistol with decocker. Manufacturer was Sig Sauer Systems of Eckenford, Germany. This pistol has a Simunition barrel, slide catch, and cartridge follower. All its other parts are perfectly functional and normal. Slide is unfinished white steel with rear serrations, with dovetailed drift adjustable only sights. Guide rod and braided steel return spring are original factory issue. Breech block assembly is original factory squared face, complete with firing pin safety assembly, extractor assembly, and firing pin assembly all intact. Barrel, slide stop, magazine cartridge follower are definitely Simunition replacement, made for firing that company’s practice ammunition that is very different from live ammunition. Simunition com document number 11-sig-p225-p6-9mm shows and explains the four pieces to its product. We suspect that with a standard barrel alone this P6 can be restored to functional condition with live ammunition. Shoppers, however, should consult with a competent gunsmith, because we are neither competent nor gunsmiths. Frame is lightweight alloy with steel internal parts. Grips are factory checkered surface two piece polymer with a blue enamel finish installed by the Bundespolizei. Magazine is German factory Sig 8 rounder with dovetailed back closure and Simunition steel follower, 8+1 capacity fully loaded. Hammer is .325 width, with original slotted spur. Trigger is .250 smooth faced steel, 1 inch smooth 12 pound vicinity double action pull; and the photo specimen pulled single action, two stage at a crisp 4 pounds with minimal felt creep and overtravel. Overall length is 7 inches; height 5 1/2 inches; and slide thickness 1 inch at the port. Weight empty is 28.3 ounces. Frame finish is original factory black anodized with only moderate amounts or edge wear. Slide was blue enamel coated and it stripped to white easily enough. We rate the frame, trigger, and levers as Very Good, 80 percent vicinity by our estimate, if one ignores the enamel on the grips. Replacement pricing on the nearest thing in production, the Sig 225A1, is $1,175.00 on sigsauer com. A good shopper or smith might be able to get the needed parts to make one of these Sigs a functional pistol for perhaps as little as $150.00. It will function just fine as it is with Simunition practice ammunition. We estimate it was fired fewer than 1000 rounds with the stuff during its training only career.
