Description: Underwood M1 .30 carbine, serial number 28057xx (July ’43-Mar ’44) production. This carbine is in very good used condition. Barrel is Underwood dated Dec. ’43, with a bright bore. Bolt, trigger housing and most other parts are Underwood, many parts are detailed below and available in photos. Stock is original with AAO marking (Augusta Arsenal) The carbine has been disassembled, examined, cleaned and lubricated. Less than 30 rounds thru this carbine since taking ownership in 2007.

Details:

Receiver: July 1943-Feb 1944. Marked “UNDERWOOD”, “U.S. CARBINE CAL. .30 M1”,. Very good condition other than finish wear, absolutely no pitting. The Underwood mark is covered by the rear sight, which is common, and is partially shown by the camera, but it is visible in the right light.

Barrel: Underwood 12-43, with Flaming Ordnance Bomb mark and firing proof “P”. Exterior is in very good condition other than finish wear, no pitting. Short Skirt. Bore is bright, crown and rifling very good.

Stock: RSG Robert W. Irwin Grand Rapids, MI Saginaw S.G.

Front sight: marked "SI B”

Rear sight: Type III – Marked IR Co –

Bolt: Round - (from memory it is marked 'U', been awhile since apart, stored)

Safety: Rotary Type IV J A O ordered replaced following WWII, It's location near the magazine catch sometimes resulted in troops pushing the magazine catch and releasing the magazine instead of pushing the safety to the fire position. Springfield Armory designed and developed the rotary safety to prevent this from happening. The design was adopted 7 Mar 1945.

Carbine as disassembled upon private party purchase, cleaned, examined for wear, lubricated for storage and placed in a moisture controlled safe wrapped in a silicon sleeve. Only a few rounds by this owner fired.

A collector grade carbine, would prefer this goes to a Collector of military rifles. Shipping from Prescott area, N. AZ from private gun shop, costs are negotiable.

Includes 3 15 round mags, older milspec. A later zippered canvas carry case designed for M1.
