From its exclusive private owner, an Indiana Collector, comes this pristine specimen of the Richards Conversion based on the Colt 1851 .44 Navy Revolver. Colt’s Patent Firearms Manufacturing Company was blocked from developing a cartridge revolver by Smith & Wesson’s patent rights until 1869. Col. Colt’s technicians Richards and Mason produced Colt’s first successfully with this revolver’s ancestor, based on the 1851 Colt Navy. Its introduction in 1872 preceded the classic Single Action Army’s by one year, and the transitional nature of the design is conspicuous. Italian manufacturer A. Uberti S.P.A. of Gardone, Italy introduced their first run to the US Market in 2002; Cimarron Arms of Fredericksburg, Texas, is importer since 2007 on this variant. Construction is blued steel grip frame, cylinder, barrel assembly and internal parts, with Color Casehardened main frame and hammer. Grips are Italian Walnut. Barrel is 7 1/2 inch, 6 groove 1:16 right hand twist. Front sight is slot sweated blue steel with raised notch rear sight forward of the barrel to cylinder junction. Type is single action only revolver. Cylinder capacity is 6 rounds of .45 Colt, or Long Colt, caliber ammunition; and owners should stick to ammunition with velocity Less Than 800 feet per second. Weight empty is 39 ounces, with center of gravity at the front trigger guard screw. Surface detractions on this specimen are negligible, only a faint amount of rotation whitenind on the cylinder face. Face bears no carbon whatsoever, and this piece is unfired. It comes in its original box with disassembly tool, replacement wedge screw, instruction manual, original bill of sale from 2011, and a never mailed factory registration certificate in the owner’s name. CF Italian Date Code confirms 2011 as the Year of Production. Replacement pricing on an original Colt will run into 5 figures. Replacement pricing on many Uberti revolvers approaches $1,000 apiece.
