Description: Original Colt New Service revolver that was shipped to England during WWI. This revolver is chambered for the .455 Eley cartridge (aka .455 Webley MK II) and wears a 5.5" barrel with fixed service sights. This revolver appears completely original with some expected wear from use and time. The rear of the cylinder has NOT been cut for .45 ACP and the chambers are still original, not reamed for .45 Colt. There are the typical British proofs on the frame, barrel, and over each chamber of the cylinder. There are NO modern import markings. The original bright blue finish shows general wear, handling marks, and some thinning. There is no significant pitting anywhere. I'd grade the original bright blue finish at about 70% overall. The factory original hard rubber grips are in generally good condition, with a chip out of the lower right grip. The mechanics are in good working order with proper timing and solid lock-up with the trigger held to the rear. The bore is excellent with bright, sharp rifling. Serial number check indicates manufacture in 1915. Frame Serial number 90018. The Colt New Service was a popular revolver with British officers, and many had privately purchased their own Colt New Service revolver in the years prior to World War I as an alternative to the standard-issue Webley Revolver. Designated as "Pistol, Colt, .455-inch 5.5-inch barrel Mk. I" when chambered for the .455 Webley cartridge, it is estimated that approximately 55,000 New Service revolvers were acquired for issue as "substitute standard" by the British War Department during World War One. Tough as nails, many remained in service through the Second World War. Priced below Blue book 60%.
