Parker VHE 20GA. SKEET, RARE GUN, 1 OF 217 MADE
In the world of collecting and shooting Parker shotguns, the VHE 20ga. is fairly common, with over 10,000 produced, and can be acquired for a modest sum of money. Those who are aware of Parker Skeet guns, made by both Parker Bros. and Remington/Parker, realize that there is a true rarity when searching for Skeet specific Parkers, with only 217 total production of VHE 20ga. Skeet guns. This fine Parker, sn241531 shipped in 1940, is one of the 217. A Parker Skeet Gun is not labeled as such, but will always have SST, Ejectors, and beavertail forend. Chokes were marked on the barrel flats as choked "skeet in" and "skeet out" on guns produced after about 1936. This Parker is so marked. Parker Skeet guns were choked slightly tighter in the right barrel for outgoing targets, more open in the left barrel for incoming targets, as this Parker is. Most Skeet guns have checkered butts, double ivory beads, and 26" (most) or 28" barrels as well. The wood chosen for the stocks was often nicely figured walnut, with higher dimensions than the typical field gun. This gun has all of the above. In short, a Parker Skeet gun is a rare, low production gun with lots of options, and as such a great investment quality shotgun that is a shooting machine on the skeet line or in the field.
The 26" Vulcan Steel barrels retain 99% blue, excellent bores, choked .008 right, .005 left, internal bore diameter factory at .619/.618 right and left respectively, minimum wall thickness 23 thou right, 23 thou left, 2 3/4" chambers, tight ribs, double ivory beads, tight on breech face, reinforced forend loop, an excellent set of barrels.
The receiver retains 99% bone and charcoal case colors, excellent screws, action tight with lever right of center, clear sharp engraving, Parkers 2nd generation single selective trigger (works excellent, crisp and 4.75lbs. right, 4.5lbs. left), trigger guard retains 99% blue, all in perfect mechanical order.
The wood is highly figured for a VH Grade gun, retaining nearly all of its finish, just a few handling marks, excellent checkering, excellent wood to metal fit, 13 7/8" LOP to checkered butt from rear position SST, 2 3/8" drop at heel, 1 9/16" drop at nose of comb,
1/8" cast off (can be bent to your specs within 14 days of purchase), beavertail forend excellent, really great late Remington Parker wood.
This gun was fully restored, but not altered from factory configuration. The gun weighs 6lbs. 6oz. and balances perfectly between the hands. Whether you shoot skeet, sporting clays, or enjoy a day afield after your favorite game birds, this gun will fill the bill and continue to grow in value as you care for it and enjoy its use. It is a delightful small bore Parker Skeet gun.
