This Merkel 47E 12 gauge is a self-cocking Anson & Deeley boxlock with cocking indicators, side clips, single selective trigger, auto tang-mounted safety and Holland and Holland ejectors. Made in 2001, this piece has 28” barrels choked Improved Cylinder and Modified with 3” chambers. LOP – 14 1/4”, Drop @ comb – 1 3/4”; Heel – 2 7/8”. Bores are excellent; hammer-forged steel barrels are pristine. The receiver is case hardened, hand engraved with engraved screws. The case colors on my gun are quite bright on the off-side (right) but have faded slightly on the left side where it rubs against my jacket or vest. There are no scratches or marks on the hand-checkered stock or forend; the original oil finish is intact. The pistol grip stock is made from an outstanding chunk of walnut with dark stripes and swirls as the photos show. Weight is 6.8 pounds, light enough to carry all day. Mine has the lovely Merkel Italian-made canvas & leather take-down case in superior condition (These are no longer supplied with new guns). Also included is the original paperwork.
