Rebuilt with much better steel in the 1955 Springfield barrel. These final M1 barrels had much better steel that lengthened the useful life of the bore. The wood bears the Arsenal P in the circle, "Proof" mark. Overall the rifle appears to have been un issued after rebuild. Serial number 1938097 that documents 1943 production. With my 80 year old eyes, I shot groups inside of 1 1/2" at 100yds. Younger eyes could do even better. This is a grand shooter.
