Martini Henry 1878 Martini-Henry - Converted to long lever Guns > Rifles > Antique (Pre-1899) Rifles - Ctg. Misc.
Description: Antique so no FFL required - however, make sure it is legal in your locality. I will verify.

Not one of the recent imports from Nepal (see for Nepal markings).

See for more pictures. Bore is dark but has strong rifling and no pitting. Finish is worn with a patina - has some splotches that look like dried up grease (cosmoline?) - can't find pitting in the metal. One set screw in the left side of the receiver is damaged. Stock has small crack just behind the receiver on the left side and has some damage on the left side of where the lever rests in the brass socket.

This was manufactured by Enfield in 1878 but is in the MK IV configuration (1888 - 1891) (see for more information, some of which is extracted below)

"When converted to "A" and "B" pattern Mark IV's, the short lever was removed, the operating lever retaining cup hole was plugged with wood, and a long lever was installed. Thus, "A" and "B" pattern Mark IV's are easily identifiable by a wood plug on the underside of the buttstock. Also, "A" and "B" patterns will typically have the "V" character stamped off center, to the right of the "I" character on the Sovereign's Cypher (as E-M Mark I's, they bore a single "I" designating the Mark. When converted to Mark IV, the "V" was added to the existing "I")."
