Description: Dakota Model 76 Safari Grade, 375 H&H, Engraved, Near New

Dakota Safari Grade with Lion engraving, in .375 H&H Magnum with 23” barrel with an island rear sight, one leaf standing. Front sight is Masterpiece ramp with push-button release sight protector and silver bead sight.

True to express styling, this rifle has a barrel-band-mounted front sling swivel, and a deep belly magazine box with a one-piece hinged straddle floorplate with a center-bow release. The floorplate features a bulino-engraved African lion, hand-engraved in gold by John Vukos, which coordinates tastefully with Dakota’s gold medallion in the grip cap. LOP is 13 11/16” over a 7/8” pad. Weight is 8 lbs. 8 oz.

The Bluebook describes this model (without engraving) as standard with XXX English walnut with ebony forearm tip, and this specimen would easily grade XXX, with immaculate hand-checkering in 22 lpi point patterns in the Biesen style with full wrapped-around forearm checkering. The stock is also furnished with Dakota’s steel pistol grip cap with maker’s medallion and is inletted with a two-screw tie-down Dakota rear sling swivel. The comb is classic with a handsome-shaped cheekpiece for the right hand with a sculptured contoured shadowline.

All Dakotas are glass-bedded in Sturgis before leaving the maker and the two action screws are held consistently taut with two ridged aluminum sleeves mounted in the stock. Like the famed Winchester pre-64 Model 70, which the Dakota emulates, the front action screw drives into the barrel flat rather than into the recoil lug which has always accounted for superior accuracy over all other commercial Mauser 98 take-offs. If you are not familiar with Dakota rifles, you must discover the innovative built-in bolt release – which is another feature that truly separates Dakota as a custom maker from the commercial class.

For this heavy caliber, the stock is also fitted with two recoil lugs located in the perfect positions to save stock splitting, covered with ebony plugs on both sides of the stock and a concealed mercury recoil reducer.

The factory satin blue remains at 99%, the stock at 98% with very few marks from a gun safe, checkering at 100%, and the bore is as new as the day it left South Dakota.

The scope is new, a Nikon Monarch 2-8x36 mounted in Talley QD rings on Talley bases specifically made for Dakota receivers – the perfect African setup for this caliber, ready to go in the field.

Price is $6,250.00 as engraved, with scope and rings; Shipping $45 to any of the lower 48 states. Buyer must furnish current FFL copy for shipping.
