Parker Brothers built fine SxS shotguns in Meriden, CT, from 1866 to 1934. Parkers were uncompromising in their quality and the choice of prominent Americans including presidents, authors, shooters, actors, and soldiers as well as thousands of “folks”. Grade DH was their most popular higher-grade model with about 9,400 built. Heavily embellished and stocked in fine walnut, the DH gave upscale shooters a premium American double at a reasonable price. The Parker SxS's hark back to an era of elegance in upland hunting. Simple to use, nimble, and rugged, these classy doubles were ideally suited for that purpose.

This 12 ga is one of Parker's later SxS doubles. Graded “DH” and “3” on the water table near the s/n (225xxx--matching barrels and fore end) the upmarket “DHE” was Parker's most popular, higher-grade model. The gun features richly blued barrels, case-hardened & delicately engraved receiver, and select wood. A smooth release lever breaks the action open at the shotgun's balance point just behind the fore end. Dual EJECTORS automatically kick shells from the chambers and reset the safety. The 30” "TITANIC STEEL" barrels are joined by a solid rib, the top of which is 7/16” wide, patterned to reduce glare, and with muzzle and mid-rib white beads for aiming. Muzzles are choked Full (.691” & .693” ). Lavish engraving adorns all receiver surfaces. Game scenes (pheasant and pointer) grace the bottom and side flats. This model features a pistol-grip and splinter fore end. The butt is capped with a Hawkins ventilated hard rubber recoil pad. The wood is premium-grade gloss-finished American black walnut with a beautiful figure and cross-grain. Both the wrist and fore end bear well executed checkering. An Action leather shoe protects the butt, and the gun ships in a green, padded Orvis soft case.

Built in 1927(s/n 225xxx), this shotgun is rated NRA (antique) Very Good to Fine with overall finish at 50%. The gun seems in good working order. Both triggers function properly, and the dual ejectors work as expected. The action is smooth with solid lock up, and the gun breaks down easily. Original barrel blue is about 80%, still even and rich but just starting to mottle with with a few wisps of plum patina just visible under strong, focused light. 2 larger patina rings (¼” & ½”) are visible on top of the right barrel in front of the mid bead. The barrels show a few light handling dings, mostly on the outer contours, and light contact scuffing under the fore end. The sharp edges of the muzzle, chamber mouths, and top rib are shiny. Receiver original finish is rated at 35%. Although clear hints remain (e.g., water table & under triggers), only vestiges of the original case colors survive as faint brown and blue mottling on the otherwise uniform gunmetal gray of most receiver surfaces. The metal, however, is remarkably free of dings, only 3 light scuffs noted. Letters and engraving are close to 100% – sharp and clear. Screw heads show slight wear from removal in the past. The bores are bright, mirror-like, and unpitted. Wood condition is excellent at about 95% with a few dings and grooves, all very light. Checkering fields are 100%. Although original, the wood finish has been touched up professionally to close up the grain behind the top tang and clean up some bubbled stock varnish from setting drop to customer specs in 1995. The Orvis soft case is clean and in Excellent shape as is the Action butt shoe.
