Mossberg’s 151 series rifles enjoyed a decade worth of production, from 1946 through 1958. This specimen is a 151M(a), manufactured from 1947 until 1958 only. It comes to us from a Kibbutz, a communal farm, in the Land of Israel. Manufacturer was O.F. Mossberg & Sons of New Haven, CT, and barrel is so marked. Importer markings on left side of receiver include a model number and new serial number, since the 151s were never serialized. Construction is steel barrel, bolt, internal parts, trigger, and buttplate with finger grooved polymer trigger housing and guard, and a two piece, Mannlicher style American Walnut stock. Barrel is 20 inch, 1:16 Six groove rifling. Sights are steel screw-on front housing, with adjustable front blades; and notch type steel rear that is elevation adjustable. Receiver is grooved for 3/8 inch rings. Magazine is internal to the buttstock. Chambering is .22 Long Rifle High Speed only, and the magazine holds 15 rounds of .22 LR ammunition. Stock length of pull is 13 3/4 inches from the .190 smooth faced steel trigger to the end of the steel butt plate. Drop is the normal 1 1/2 by 2 1/2, with a 3/4 inch right hand cant. Weight empty is 6 pounds, with center of gravity at the bolt handle. Overall length is 40 inches. Finish is brushed surface blued steel, with glossy oil finish. Surface detractions to this 151M are extensive, principally a wrist area crack on both sides, with a distinctive and artistic Kibbutznik brass wrist brace. Schnabel connector plate has toning, as does the smaller matching sling insert plate on the heel area. We rate this rifle as Good, perhaps Very Good, with stock repairs, but photos ought to suffice for our distinguished shoppers to judge finish grade for themselves. Bore, chamber, and mechanism are all bright and clean, and we have test fired 10 rounds of mixed long rifle ammunition through it with no hitches. We estimate this rifle was fired fewer than 2,000 rounds against winged and four legged raiders of the Israeli row crops.
