From a veteran’s estate in the northern reaches of the Mississippi Delta comes this distinctive Beretta Side by Side. According to Mr. Fjiestad, it is a model 409PB. Its XVII Italian code dates its manufacture to 1961, and its late owner bought it in Spain that year and brought it back with him to Dyer County, Tennessee. Type is pin secured box lock double trigger side by side with single block extractor. Barrels are 2 3/4 inch chambered, marked Alloy Chromium Electric Steel / Special Type Ausonia on both tubes above the chambers. Barrels are 28 inch modified and full chokes, .697 muzzle on the right tube and .682 muzzle left tube. Receiver is factory engraved chrome plated steel, with blue steel checkered breech lever and top tang safety. Stock and forend are cut checkered Italian Walnut with their original factory blue steel sling swivels. Note the English style buttstock configuration. Length of pull is 13 3/4 inches from the right / forward trigger face to the end of the silver screw secured factory buttplate. Weight empty is 7 1/2 pounds, with the center of gravity at the rear area of the forend. Buttstock is perfectly aligned with the barrels, no right hand cant, so this shotgun will be Southpaw Friendly except for the trigger positions. Surface detractions are minimal to moderate, small amounts of freckling on the barrel surfaces, and a few small streaks and scours on the walnut. We rate this Beretta as Very Good, close to Excellent, 85 percent vicinity by our estimate. It is Excellent mechanically; breech lever still cants to the right, lockup is tight and positive, and bores, chambers, and mechanism are all bright, clean, and excellent.
