From its 732000 range serial number, this specimen of the Hahn Selbstspanner ("self-cocking hammer") Pistole left the Mauser Werke Factory some time in late 1941 or early 1942, and was issued to a German Army officer. Infantryman Raines of nearby Obion County, Tennessee, took it and brought it home in 1945. This pistol’s chief detraction is its replacement plexiglass or clear plastic grips, but these are period correct and often installed by soldiers stationed near airfields where windshields were plentiful. This pistol bears the correct 655 German Army Acceptance stamp on the left side trigger guard, and Eagle Proof marks on the right side of the guard web. Holster is a CZ marked CZ27 holster with WAa76 Eagle mark and 1941 date. Our Infantryman wrote his name on the flap. As far as specs, type is blowback semi-automatic pistol, Mauser Werke manufacture, model HSC, caliber .32 ACP / 7.65mm. Safety lever is not a decocker; this pistol can be carried cocked and locked or resting and locked. Construction is entirely blue steel, with recessed milled slide-integral small blade front sight and dovetailed notch rear sight. Capacity is 8+1 rounds of .32 ACP, and both magazines are factory Mauser and so marked. Barrel measures 3 1/4 inches. Surface detractions are only moderate, with holster contact edge whitening and small amounts of whitening on the forward sides of the slide, as the photo show. Surfaces show small amounts of finish freckling, but original bluing is strong throughout. We rate this HSC as Very Good, 80 percent vicinity by our estimate, but photos ought to suffice for our distinguished shoppers to judge finish grade for themselves. It is certainly excellent mechanically; bore, chamber, and mechanism are all bright, clean, and excellent. Wartime German Military HSC pistols are not plentiful.
