Description: REASONABLE OFFERS CONSIDERED !!

GALT COLLINS CIVIL WAR Field & Staff OFFICERS SWORD - 1862 CHECKED OUT BY A LOCAL EXPERT, THIS 1862 LINCOLN'S OFFICER'S SWORD IS IN MINT CONDITION, AND THE ONLY FLAW (DEPENDING ON WHO'S OPINION IT IS), IS THAT THERE IS A SMALL BLOOD STAIN ON THE SCABBARD UP TOWARD THE TOP, THAT HAS TAKEN JUST A LITTLE BIT OF BLUE OFF THE SCABBARD. THIS WAS SUGGESTED TO US BY THE EXPERT THAT THIS SWORD WAS VERY POSSIBLY USED IN THE CIVIL WAR, WITH DAMAGE DONE TO THE SWORD OWNING OFFICER OR HIS FOE DURING THE BATTLE HE WAS IN.

THIS ANTIQUE, EXCELLENT QUALITY, FINE CONDITION, COLLINS PRODUCED MONITOR FIELD AND STAFF OFFFICERS SWORD IS A WONDERFUL FIND AND LIKELY SAW SERVICE DURING THE CIVIL WAR. MARKETED BY M. W. GALT JEWELERS, LOCATED IN WASHINGTON D.C. AT THE TIME OF THE CIVIL WAR (EQUIVALENT TO TIFFANY'S), IT WAS LIKELY AIMED TO BE SOLD TO HIGH RANKING FEDERAL MILITARY OFFICERS. GALT, AT THAT TIME, WOULD BE CONSIDERED WHAT TIFFANY WOULD BECOME LATER IN THE 19th CENTURY. THE SCABBARD REMAINS IN WELL MAINTAINED CONDITION AND RETAINS NEARLY ALL OF IT'S FINE FIRED ON COBALT BLUE FINISH. THERE IS ONE FLAW IN THE SCABBARDS FINISH AND IT APPREARS TO HAVE BEEN CAUSED BY A SPLASH OF BLOOD SPLATTER. THE SABRE ITSELF REMAINS IN FIGHTING TRIM WITH A SOLIDLY ATTACHED GILDED, PIERCED AND FOLIATED BASKET HILT. REMARKABLY, EVEN THE WIRE WRAPPING REMAINS IN GOOD CONDITION. THIS REMAINS AN UN-MESSED WITH, AND HISTORICALLY CORRECT, MILITARY ARTIFACT. AS SUCH, IT DESERVES A PLACE OF HONOR IN A MUSEUM OR PRIVATE COLLECTION DEDICATED TO THE PRESERVATION OF OUR NATIONAL HERITAGE. ONE EXACTLY LIKE THIS RECENTLY SOLD FOR ALMOST $15K, AS THE PROVENANCE DATED BACK TO ORIGINAL OWNER / OFFICER WHO USED THE SWORD.

** ONE ADDED AND VERY INTERESTING ARTICLE THAT GIVES THE WATCHER / BUYER MORE INFO ON THIS M.W. GALT & CO. MADE CIVIL WAR SWORD. THE ARTICLE FROM THE SMITHSONIAN.COM SITE FOLLOWING IS ABOUT A MAN WHO WORKED FOR THIS COMPANY THE VERY SAME YEAR THIS SWORD WAS MADE, AND DETAILED HIS THOUGHTS & REACTION AT THE JEWELER'S THE DAY THAT THE CIVIL WAR STARTED - CHECK THIS OUT - GREAT STUFF:

-archaeology/Lincolns-Pocket-Watch-Reveals-Long-Hidden-Message.html

A SMALL EXCERPT FROM THIS ARTICLE: On April 13, 1861, Irish immigrant and watchmaker Jonathan Dillon, working for the M.W. Galt and Co. jewelers in Washington, D.C., was repairing President Abraham Lincoln's pocket watch, when he heard of the attack. Forty-five years later, Dillon told the New York Times what he did that day.

"I was in the act of screwing on the dial when Mr. Galt announced the news. I unscrewed the dial, and with a sharp instrument wrote on the metal beneath: ‘The first gun is fired. Slavery is dead. Thank God we have a President who at least will try.'"
