Description: This rifle is also listed on the other big gun auction website {GB}, and as you can see I have allot of good feedback with them, but I am trying to build it up here as well. Eventually I would like to leave the other site altogether as I don't like being turned into a tax collector, and I also don't like this new "compliance fee" they have suddenly sprung on us. Now on to the listing. I bought this rifle sometime back from a close friend. It was one of his father's hunting rifles. His father bought it from the original owner back in the 1930s, so it has been in the same family all that time until I bought it. The original owner had cut the barrel down to carbine length and allowed the bore to pit badly. it was originally chambered in 40-82. When the couple of boxes of cartridges ran out, no more could be found, so my friend's dad took it to the local gunsmith and had him re-barrel it in something that ammo could be more easily sourced for. He did a beautiful job too. Headspace is good, according to my gauges. Bore is bright and shiny with sharp grooves and well defined lands. Both my buddy and his dad were casters, so I suspect this rifles has had mostly {if not all} lead cast bullets down the barrel. Barrel length is 23 inches. Wood is really nice, no repairs, no splits or cracks, no cuts or missing pieces. Original varnish is there, but thin on the rear stock, about worn smooth on the front. Metal on the receiver shows a nice aged patina. Action cycles as a good '86 should, locks up tight. Very old all steel peep sight attached to the receiver, I believe it is an old Lyman, but I can't say for sure unless I remove it. I believe I have this priced more than fair considering that Italian and Jap copies are priced at close to $2k. Any questions, feel free to ask, I'm very approachable. I have a boatload of pictures of this rifle, email me and I will send them to you via attachments. Because this rifle has a 1895 serial number, per FFL regulations it is considered a pre-1899 antique and is exempt from most regulations of the 1968 gun control act., meaning no FFL transfer is required, hence I can ship it straight to your address. That alone is worth something. Payment is to be made with a US Postal Service Money Order ONLY. No drug or convenience store money orders, no Western Union, no MoneyGram, no checks, no Walmart gift cards. US Postal Money Order ONLY. Payment must be received within seven days from the time of the winning bid unless other arraignments have been made. No sales to any states where prohibited, know your state gun laws before you place a bid.
