Ithaca Gun Company's last model of double shotgun was the "NEW ITHACA DOUBLE", or NID model. Built from 1926 to 1949, only 45,000 were produced in all gauges and grades, with a majority being Field grade 12ga. guns. Ithaca high grade guns are special amongst the American double guns, as they are superb mechanically, the NID action is brutish in strength, second only to Winchester’s Model 21, and graded guns are nicely engraved with game scenes and scroll. This Grade 4E, sn427011 built in 1926, is a great example of these features, with nicely hand chiseled game scene engraving THAT INCLUDES AN EXTRA FACTORY ADDED GAME SCENE VIGNETTE ON THE BOTTOM OF THE ACTION. I HAVE NEVER SEEN THIS ON ANY OTHER ITHACA GRADE 4 GUN AND IT IS DEFINITIVELY FACTORY ENGRAVED. Somebody got a favor or requested this special pattern of engraving. The gun retains traces of factory case color with the action showing a pleasing silvery grey, making the engraving really pop when found in this condition. The very desirable 32” factory ventilated rib barrels retain 99% factory barrel blue, mirror shiny bores, 2 ¾” chambers with 1 ½” tapered forcing cones (forcing cone work done by Vintage Firearm, Inc.), Full/Full chokes, ribs tight, and barrels fit tight on the hinge pin and standing breech like a new gun. The mechanics are excellent, with crisp Ithaca single selective trigger, well timed ejectors, top lever right of center, excellent screws, and superb wood-to-metal fit with no cracks or splits. The stocks have been professionally replaced, well-fitted and modern shooting dimensions. This fine Ithaca NID is a purpose-built double trap gun that will do equally well in the field chasing turkey, waterfowl, or any long birds. Not only will this beautiful gun handle all your 12ga. shooting needs, but it will also continue to gain value as you enjoy its use. This is a VFI CERTIFIED GUN WITH A 90-DAY MECHANICAL WARRANTY, as we have stripped the action and the forend iron to their smallest parts, Ultrasonic cleaned all, inspected each part for function and integrity, lubricated all and reassembled. You can rest assured the gun is ready for another decade or so of use before needing another cleaning service if you do the normal maintenance.
