These black tannin dyed “uppers” were worn by a person wearing shoes (instead of the period high boots) to cover the area from the shoe top to the knee, in effect turning the shoe into a boot. They are lower in back – 14-1/2 inches, higher in front – 22-1/8th inches. Black leather is in excellent condition. Only the strap that goes under the sole of the shoes shows wear.
