Here we have an antique Winchester Model 1886 rifle serial numbered in 1893 and restored sometime after the year 2000. This rifle, sn84318, has been restored to very high condition and done very well, with clear sharp lettering and stamps, nicely done rust blue barrel and mag tube, and bone and charcoal case coloring on the action, lever, hammer, crescent steel butt plate, and forend cap. The screws are all excellent, and the very nicely figured XXX wood has a hand rubbed oil finish and perfect H pattern checkering. The bore of this rifle is excellent, having been relined by Redmond’s Rifling and Reboring out of Washington State. The barrel is a 26” full octagon heavy barrel with full length magazine tube. It is sighted with the Winchester Model 42A Sporting Leaf sight that allows for long range accuracy. The Winchester Model of 1886 was the first Winchester lever rifle capable of firing truly heavy bullets with large charges of powder with its dual locking bolts that you can see at the top of the bolt when the bolt is closed on the chamber. With the advent of the Model 1886 a real powerhouse of a rifle was born. Chambered in a large variety of cartridges, the .45-70 Gov’t was likely the most popular of them all. This rifle has been upgraded to a Deluxe rifle with the professional addition of the nicely figured wood and checkering. We have fully inspected the rifle and thoroughly cleaned the action and all its parts. This is a piece of history and a representation of one of Winchesters finest achievements and ready to take to the woods or mountains to take any of North America’s big game or predators that you care to pursue. With the newly relined bore she will shoot the big .45-70 Gov’t well and you will look good doing it! She is a gorgeous rifle. We have priced the rifle according to the changes and upgrades that have been done to her. You could not restock and restore this rifle for the amount of money we are asking for the gun, and she is ready to go…no year or two delay for the restoration to occur.
