Description: Our current, second-generation proprietor remembers personally selling one of these in about 1971 for $12.50 new; and firing one and having it shave lead a bit earlier. Since the 1968 Gun Control Act, and similar subsequent melt laws like the notorious South Carolina law, were intended to disarm poor people and render them vulnerable, that act immediately stopped the import of the good cheap little RG revolvers manufactured in Germany. Until RG set up manufacturing operations in Miami in the mid 1970s, the cheap revolver gap got filled by a Santa Monica, California Company doing business as Clerke Technicorp. The two main courses of fare from that company were the Clerke First revolver chambered in .22 Long Rifle caliber, and also in .32 Smith & Wesson caliber. Construction, as with the photo specimen, was mainly pot metal with a minimum of steel parts, mainly a barrel liner, firing pin, cylinder hand, and cylinder pin. This specimen comes to us from an estate in nearby Shelby County, Tennessee; it is all original but has a blue steel replacement cylinder pin. Grips are original, but have the common-to-the-series tendency to slide back and forth. Finish is in the 90 percent vicinity by our estimate, with only faint amounts of light scouring on its edges. We rate this Clerke as Excellent-as-it-ever-was, both finishwise and mechanically. The Clerkes we sold locally had a habit of firing pin flattening that rendered the life of the revolver to fewer than 100 rounds. We estimate that this Clerke First has been fired fewer than 15 times, so it probably has a fair amount of longevity remaining. We will not, however, accept any returns on it. We are offering it only for purposes of low history. One of the best real defensive uses of one of these Clerkes happened in Shelby County, investigated by one of our retired MPD elders, where the female shot the abusive male cohabitant between the eyes with one, and the bullet lodged in his sinus cavity and stayed there, with only occasional migraine grade headaches. The Clerkes were in production, from our recollection, about 1969 until the late 1970s, when RG resumed its production of the similarly priced but vastly superior RG 14 and RG23 revolvers. This specimen’s serial number range is 144000, and we estimate it was manufactured in 1971 or 1972. We’re offering this lowly but historic Clerke First for only ten times its initial over-the-counter price from 40 years ago, only $ 125.00. Don't let your buddies use your account. Registered user must be the buyer, with his or her own money. Buying firearms and related items for other people can result in felony charges. Don't try, either, to circumvent any law; for example, a California civilian may not buy a high capacity magazine and have it shipped to his brother-in-law in Nevada. That is a felony.
GA Pay buyers are NOT charged until we confirm we have the item and are ready to ship it. The same thing is true for phone-in, fax-in, and mail-in payments. In this respect, and in several others, Guns America outshines all its competitors. This is the best firearms website there is, hands down.
