It has been fired and shows light signs of wear on the metal finish near the muzzle and sharp edges of the cylinder. Bore, breech face and cylinder face are all very clean as this gun was well cared for. The action on it is one of the smoothest we have ever handled and feels like everything is just floating on a set of ball bearings. Firearm does come with original mahogany hard case however it does not have the paperwork, cleaning kit or any other accessories. Also the felt lining has deteriorated and fallen out so what you see is the Styrofoam underneath. The Smith & Wesson Model 29-2 is the exact model six-shot, double-action/single-action revolver made famous by the fictional character "Dirty Harry" Callahan from the Dirty Harry series of films starring Clint Eastwood. Firearms serial number dates production to early 1973, the first year Smith & Wesson switched to the N prefix. This model features the target trigger and hammer with almost all of the original case-color remaining. Single-action trigger is phenomenally crisp on this piece, along with the rest of it's condition. At the time of its introduction, the Model 29 was the most powerful production handgun. There were a number of custom, or wildcat, calibers that were more powerful, as in the old Howdah pistols of the 19th century. Elmer Keith's achievements in maximizing the power and performance of the .44 Special was the inspiration and driving force behind the introduction of the .44 Magnum by Smith & Wesson. His intention for the new round was for it to be used in sidearms for hunters of large, dangerous game, rather than for self-defense, though with today's specialty cartridges, it can be a good defensive round.
