Description: Used in Europe by American troops during WWII. At the end of the war, Gen Patton was military governor of Bavaria and saw that to maintain the peace, local German policemen needed firearms. The Germans were not allowed full power rifles, but carbines were deemed to be okay. When the Germans got the Carbines, some of their departments did not like the peep sight, especially forest police in dim lighting. So they added a front sight mount, forward of the receiver and put on a "V" sight, made to clear the op rod coming forward. Later, this carbine was used by Austrian police and they restored the US peep sight, leaving the Bavarian front mount in place. This US M1 Carbine comes with Certificate of Authenticity and will have the 15 round magazine. A standard US web sling and steel oiler in the butt slot, are on the carbine. If you notice WWII photos showing M1 Carbines, you almost never see one with a bayonet lug. That is because the bayonet lug got in the war too late and few were used in WWII. This carbine is correct, having the barrel band without bayonet lug attachment. This one definitely saw action in the hands of an American soldier, fighting in Europe during WWII. There is a clear US Ordnance Wheel cartouche in the stock. Other signs of Bavarian use are the numerals on various parts as was the German custom. The Carbine was made by The Inland Division of General Motors in 1943. Fantastic condition for a 74 year old battle carbine. A very unique gift for Christmas for anyone interested in American military history. You may use my liberal lay away plan to suit your budget! All metal and wood in excellent condition. Bore appears as unfired, or nearly so. Comes with 15 round magazine and Instruction Manual. Original chamber, 30 cal. Carbine. Great condition for a battle carbine made. 74 years ago. A wonderful piece of US Military history. A very unique gift for anyone, this Christmas!!
