THE A.H. FOX 16 GAUGE STERLINGWORTH---THE BEST VALUE IN THE VINTAGE AMERICAN DOUBLEGUN WORLD, BAR NONE! First, all A.H. Fox 16-gauge guns are built on the 20-gauge frame, providing lightweight, superbly balanced guns that outshine the other American makers. Second, the Fox Sterlingworth is the same gun mechanically as all other grades of the A.H. Fox gun, having the fewest parts and smallest action of any of its competitors. Third, because they made a lot of them, the price is very affordable. With so many of them out there, condition is important, and many of the Sterlingworth guns were used hard and not well maintained. At Vintage Firearms, Inc. (VFI) we inspect each gun before purchase, our 4 gunsmiths clean and service each gun as needed, and on most guns, we strip the actions to the smallest parts, Ultrasonic clean and scrub all parts to shiny metal, inspect all parts for integrity and function, make any replacements or repairs necessary, lubricate and reassemble, providing VFI CERTIFIED GUNS, a $275 service in our shop. VFI CERTIFIED GUNS have a 90-day mechanical warranty providing confidence you are buying a fine shotgun that will provide years of service in the field. Additionally, most of the early American 16ga. guns were short chambered for 2 9/16” shells. PRESENTLY IT IS DIFFICULT, IF NOT IMPOSSIBLE, TO FIND 2 ½” 16GA. SHELLS TO PURCHASE. BECAUSE OF THIS, VFI GUNSMITHS HAVE CAREFULLY MEASURED THE BARREL WALL THICKNESS AHEAD OF THE CHAMBER, AND WHENEVER IT IS SAFE, HAVE LENGTHENED THE CHAMBERS TO 2 ¾” AND EXTENDED THE FORCING CONES TO 1 ½” TAPERS SO THAT YOU CAN SHOOT MODERN 2 ¾” FIELD LOADS THROUGH OUR GUNS. This is a $360 service in our shop. Modern chambers and long forcing cones makes for safe shooting with softer recoil and better patterns, which benefit the shooter and preserve the integrity of these fine older doubleguns. Just remember, nowhere is it more apparent than in the gun world…you get what you pay for! If you want an upland gun you can rely on, buy one that is field ready and can safely shoot modern, available field loads. This Sterlingworth, sn367598 has about 85% factory original case color, fantastic stock dimensions of a very modern 14 3/16"x 2 9/16"x 1 9/16" with a neutral cast, original Sterlingworth splinter forend, capped pistol grip and factory buttplate. Wood to metal is excellent overall with a small gap evident at the bottom tang. The furniture is standard straight grain Walnut with hand cut flat diamond checkering at wrist and splinter and is in excellent condition. The Barrels have been cleaned and professionally reblued by VFI and show 100% cover all the way to the crowns. The 28" barrels have extended cones and are choked cylinder/ full which along with its stock dimensions would make this gun an ideal choice for just about any upland hunt ready for quick shots at close birds with a chance for a longer shot for those at distance. Weighing 6lb 2oz, the gun carries beautifully even for long treks through upland country, yet by virtue of its 16-gauge bores it punches well above its weight class.
