Description: This listing is for the exact rifle in the photos. Here is a small ring Spanish M1916 Mauser, German production, that comes to us from a South Alabama Estate. Original manufacturer was Ludwig Lowe of Berlin. Military rework arsenal was Fabrica de Armas, Oviedo, Spain. We estimate the custom sporter work took place some time in the early 1960s, possibly by a smith in Selma, Alabama. It was never import stamped, because it came into the US well before 1968. Type is bolt action sporterized Large Ring Mauser Rifle. Chambering is 7mm Mauser, 7x57mm, for lower pressure loads. Construction is steel and walnut. Barrel is 24 inch US Production, probably Douglas Barrel Co., medium tapered, .560 outside diameter at the muzzle, .748 osd at the forend, and 1.127 at the receiver face. Bore is 6 groove right hand 1:9 rifling. Sights are 700 Remington type, removable 2 piece 700 front, with windage and elevation adjustable 3 piece rear. Note that the front sight’s bead portion is missing; it sits at .333 high where it should be .375 high, and the late owner of the rifle simply accommodated by running the rear sight’s elevation position low. Receiver ring is 1.396 diameter, four point drilled probably for Weaver #46 front and #45 rear. Center distance is .900 front and .560 rear, with 4.31 inches space between the nearest holes. Safety is original and unaltered 2 position, lever up for safe and to the left for fire. Trigger is .250 round face, pulls at a crisp 2 1/4 pounds. Trigger holds well with safety off at a 2 foot bounce, but releases on 3 feet. Safety holds under stress very well. Magazine is internal box type with steel floor plate, holds 4 rounds of 7mm Mauser ammunition. Screws are intact except for the retaining screw, removed by the original gunsmith to fit the stock. Stock is American Walnut, probably Fajen Production, with black 1 inch Pachmayr White Line recoil pad. Drop is a very straight 2 1/4 inch at the low comb and at the butt, with a 1 inch right hand cast. Length of pull is 14 inches, with 44 3/4 inches overall length. Weight empty is 7 pounds 9 ounces, centered at the breech face. Sling swivels are improvised plate and eyelet front, with original military type rear. Sling is 1960s military type 1 1/4 inch leather with brass hook. Finish is blued barrel, receiver, trigger assembly, and bolt handle, with white bolt body. Surface detractions are extensive with metal toning, freckling, and scouring to the stock surface. We rate this rifle as only Fair, perhaps Good, Condition, 50 to 60 percent vicinity by our estimate, but photos ought to suffice for our distinguished shoppers to judge finish grade for themselves. Bore and chamber, we’re pleased to report, has sharp clean surfaces throughout. This rifle’s late owner probably invested less than $50 in it to begin with, and let it get weathered, but nevertheless maintained it internally and did not crack the stock anywhere. Replacement pricing on recent customized Mausers often runs upwards of $1,000. We’re offering this Alabama custom 7mm Mauser, however, for only $ 259.00. Not C&R Eligible. Deduct 2% if payment is with USPS Money order & not credit card. Add $89 for 100 rounds, 5 boxes of Prvi or S&B Soft Point ammo, figures $17.80 freight paid with gun purchase, while supplies last, lower 48 only.
