There were only 2400 L.C. Smith Field Grade .410's made. Most of the .410's being offered for sale are well worn, have short stocks, butt pads, etc. that make them less desirable. Those choosing the small-bore guns as their passion choose from a minute pool of guns, as the American made .410 bore double gun is a low production gun that is hard to find. In fact, of the prominent American makers, only Parker, Ithaca, and L.C. Smith made their shotguns in the diminutive .410. Most are aware that the Parker fetches well over the $20,000 mark, and for some reason the Ithaca has a smaller following. That leaves the L.C. Smith, America's only commercially successful sidelock action available in the .410 bore, as the most desirable and affordable of the American small bores. The best guns for your collection and for investment are always going to be low production guns with condition. There is always a buyer for high condition, low production .410 American doubles. With over 75% factory case color, original factory wood with a full length of pull to a factory butt plate, strong barrel blue, perfect screws…this Elsie, snFWS56047 made in 1950, sure qualifies as an investment quality firearm. If you look closely at the photos you will note that there were sling swivel mounts in the bottom rib and belly of the stock that are near invisible in person.
