Description: From an estate in Cook County, Illinois comes this serviceable and attractive Springfield 53-B Single Shot Rimfire. Type is pull knob cocker bolt action single shot rimfire rifle. Construction is entirely steel metal with walnut one piece stock, that has its original steel butt plate. Chambering is .22 Short, Long, or Long Rifle cartridges interchangeably. Barrel is 24 inch medium type. Bore is six groove right hand 1:16 rifling. Sight system is dovetailed blade type front, with dovetailed steel step elevator rear, that is drift adjustable only for windage. Firing mechanism is pull knob cocker that sets itself upon the cocking motion. Safety is the knob itself, rotates clockwise for safe setting. Trigger is .205 smooth faced, pulls single stage at 5 pounds with minimal felt creep and overtravel. Stock has a 1 1/2 by 2 1/2 drop from the sights, with 12 7/8 inches length of pull and with a 1 inch right hand cast. This is Not a southpaw friendly rifle. Overall length is 40 3/4 inches; weight empty is 5 pounds 8 ounces, centered at the breech face. Finish is smooth gun metal gray with chrome plating largely intact on the trigger and bolt handle. Surface detractions on this rifle are moderate to extensive, but it has aged well. We rate it as Good Condition, but photos ought to suffice for our distinguished shoppers to judge finish grade for themselves. Bore, chamber, and mechanism are all bright and clean. We estimate this rifle was actually fired fewer than 1000 times. Its home domicile was inside the Chicago City limits for the entire life of its original African American owner. Its encircled 14 barrel code we are not sure about; we estimate it was manufactured before 1940 due to its slim line fluted forend area. Production only ran from 1935 until 1948 on this variant. We're offering the rifle in the photos for only $ 139.00
