Description: Rare Winchester 37 28 guage red letter. Small curl back hammer. Full choke, 28 inch barrel. 37's were manufactured between 1936 and 1963. The first year 28 guage had the "pigtail " lever with the small curl back hammer. Since this is the small curl back hammer without the pigtail, I am assuming this is the second year issue. (Just my opinion based on research.) Condition is "fine". The 28 retains 50% plus original blue finish with the balance thinned to a smooth brown patina and bright grey patina on edges and high spots. The walnut is also very good with some minor dings and scratches scattered throughout. Mechanically excellent, with a excellent bright bore. It retains all the correct markings, including factory oval proofs on the barrel and receiver. Of course it includes the red letter "Winchester" on the bottom of the action. Single bead sight, 28 guage, 2 7/8 inch chamber and marked "full" for choke designation. Very nice example overall. You will be pleased. Only reason I'm letting it go is because I just obtained a pigtail version. Still a tough decision to sell this one.
