From its J739000 Range serial number, this Mossberg model 500C Pump Shotgun was manufactured in 1986 or 1987, from the same range number as new ones we received in those years. This is one of Mossberg’s early Cruiser variants. It was not until the 1990s that we began receiving 20 gauge 500s with synthetic forends. This Cruiser’s forend is factory original gloss black enamel finished hardwood, traditional police Corncob configuration. Pistol grip is original Factory Mossberg polymer. This shotgun is the direct ancestor to Mossberg’s current production 500SP, Mossberg numbers 50450 or 50452. Type is pump action shotgun, Other Weapon status on the Federal 4473 form that requires owners to be at least 21 years of age; Blue steel barrel, magazine tube, and internal parts mounted to a gloss finish black anodized alloy receiver; black polymer trigger guard and safety lever; caliber 20 gauge for 2 3/4 inch and 3 inch shells; magazine capacity 5+1 on 2 3/4 inch or 4 + 1 on 3 inch; 18 1/2 inch .612 Cylinder Bore barrel with brass hex base bead sight; top tang safety lever; swivel studs included; weight empty 5 1/2 pounds and with 28 inch overall length. This particular specimen comes to us from its original Louisiana family owner, and surface detractions are minimal, only faint amounts of edge whitening and finish freckling to the barrel surface. We rate it as Excellent, 90 percent vicinity finishwise; but photos ought to suffice for our distinguished shoppers to judge finish grade for themselves. It is excellent mechanically; bore, chamber, and mechanism are all bright, clean, and excellent. From our knowledge of its owner and from its condition, we estimate it has been fired fewer than 50 times. Replacement pricing on the new 500 Cruisers is $400 or more in our area.
