Its ACB serial number prefix dates this Smith & Wesson .357 Combat Magnum to President Reagan's third year in office, 1983. It is fully traditional and excellent throughout. Sights are Red Ramp front, white outline rear. Hammer is .375 Semi-Target color casehardened, and the .312 smooth combat trigger is casehardened as well. Barrel length, of course, is 2 1/2 inches, and the round butt grip frame is serrated fore and aft. Goncalo Alves Magna Round Butt Grips appear original, and they are excellent. This 19's surface detractions are minimal. All we detect is faint whitening on the lateral edges of the muzzle, and rib's muzzle edges; faint whitening on the upper edges of the rear sight, and very mild cylinder rotation marking. Blast effect to the under side of the frame top strap directly above the barrel's forcing cone is negligible, we see no cutting or even streaking to that surface. Since we removed a small amount of lead from the cylinder chamber bevels, we believe that all this revolver has had fired in it is light load .38 Special Lead Bullets, and very few of those, probably fewer than 24 rounds. We rate this revolver as Excellent, Near Mint, since more than 95 percent of its original surface finish is intact. Photos should suffice, at any rate, for interested parties to judge finish grade for themselves. Box is not original but is period appropriate and size appropriate; and the box contains appropriate nox paper, instruction manual, never-completed warranty card, and holster and ammunition advertising brochures. Even though it is neither pinned nor counterbored, this is a Bangor Punta 19, since Lear Sigler did not assume control until January of 1984. The only currently available blue .357 Magnums remotely similar to this one are the classic 27 revolvers, and all of them range from $800 apiece up to $1500 or more.
