Description: Here is an original Fox Sterlingworth shotgun from its home domicile in the Mississippi Delta. Note that it does not have any butt plate or recoil pad. We removed an aged red pad that was a detriment to its appearance, and we lack the expertise to correctly install a replacement. Manufacturer was Savage Arms of Utica Falls, NY, so marked on the barrels. From its 367000 range serial number, it is one of the first Savage made Sterlingworths from the year 1930. Construction is entirely steel metal, with walnut stock and forend. Barrels are 27 5/8 inches, nominally 28 inches, with .654 Modified right tube and with .646 Full Choke Left tube. This was a small game gun in the Hatchie wetlands. Mechanism is box lock with double triggers, single block extractor, and tang safety. Chambering is 16 gauge, 2 5/16 or 2 3/4 inch shells only; not designed for steel shot. Sight system is white ivory bead front, matching smaller figure 8 mid bead with serrated surface solid rib. Stock drop is 1 1/2 by 2 1/2 inches, with minimal right hand cast, so this shotgun is fairly Southpaw friendly. Length of pull is 13 1/4 inches from the forward trigger face to the end of the stock proper. Overall length is 42 3/4 inches. Weight empty is 5 pounds 15 ounces, centered at the forcing cones. Finish is casehardened receiver, triggers, and lever, with blued barrels and guard. Checkering is strong and crisp. Surface detractions is minimal, principally carry wear to the receiver’s case hardening. We rate it as Very Good, close to Excellent, 85 to 90 percent vicinity by our estimate, but photos ought to suffice for our shoppers to judge finish grade for themselves. Bore, chambers, and mechanism are all bright and clean. We estimate this shotgun was fired 500 times in the Hatchie River Bottom land that borders the Mississippi Delta. Installation of a correct red pad or black plate ought to be do-able at $75 vicinity. This shotgun is attractive, serviceable, and historic. We’re offering it for only $ 759.00.
