Description: Manufactured by Kimber of Oregon in 1985 or 1986, this gorgeous example of the Kimber Model 84 Custom Classic, bolt action, magazine fed sporting rifle is very scarce today because of its caliber: the .17 MACH IV. Few of these rifles are offered in today’s market, nearly 33 years after Kimber crafted Model 84s in the “wildcat” variant of the .221 Fireball cartridge.

This beauty is exceptional as well because of its stock. The walnut that the Kimber stock maker chose for this rifle is truly eye-catching. It combines reds, blacks, different shades of browns and golds and spreads them out in fans and fiddle back grain patterns. There was a time when Kimber had access to amazing walnut blanks for their Super America rifles, the top of their line, and the wood was so plentiful that they sometimes used the high grade blanks on the Custom Classic configurations. This rifle is one of those exceptional rifles.

Features include polished blue barrel at 22 inches, polished blue receiver and bottom metal, 2-screw inletted sling swivel studs, polished blued steel grip cap and blued, checkered Neidner inletted butt plate. This Custom Classic uses the disc safety on the right rear of the receiver. The magazine is contained within the stock with a flush fitting hinged floor plate.

Overall length = 40 ½ inches. Length of pull = 13 ¾ inches. Weight (with scope and rings) = 7 pounds 14 ounces

Highly desirable Brownell designed Quick Disconnect rings with finely checkered toggles.

Leupold 4.5 X 14 scope with matte black finish, dust covers, target towers and fine duplex reticle.

Serial Number: 17M172

Condition is excellent with two dings on the right side of the stock as shown in the photos. Sadly, we put the ding on the butt (near the junction of the pistol grip and the butt), when we were weighing the rifle. Clumsy hands. Our apologies. If desired, a bit of judicially applied steaming would bring the grain back up, in our opinion, and after drying, the wood would take a drop or two of stock finish and then gentle polish ... or, it could be left alone and evenually forgotten or ignored as you enjoy the rifle and the interesting 17 Mach IV cartridge.

2018 Value without two stock marks and with Brownell QD rings & scope: greater than $3500
