Description: From it tour of duty in the Land of Israel comes this Franchi 48AL lightweight 12 gauge auto. Receiver and finishing manufacturer was Llama Gabilondo y Cia, S.A., of Vitoria, Spain. Barrel and parts manufacturer was Luigi Franchi, s.p.a., of Brescia, Italy. From its AL Italian date code, it was manufactured in 1983. It is import stamped on its barrel’s under side by Century Arms. Type is John M. Browning design recoil operated semi automatic shotgun. Chambering is 12 gauge, 2 3/4 inch shells only, with adjustable friction ring mechanism for light to high powered shells. Construction is steel barrel, bolt, and internal parts all assembled into a lightweight alloy receiver group. Barrel is 28 inch with .6835 fixed Full choke muzzle diameter. The barrel is Not designed for steel shot. It will Not be accurate with rifled slugs. Outside muzzle diameter is .820. Sight system is 14 post, .265 serrated top ventilated rib with brass bead front sight and serrated top receiver rear. Interestingly, the barrel is marked, Trap. Magazine tube holds 4 rounds of 2 3/4 inch 12 gauge shotshells, so 4 + 1 fully loaded capacity with no magazine adapter or plug. Mag spring retention is by a Remington type friction split ring retainer. Safety is guard mounted push button type, behind the .220 smooth faced steel trigger. Weight empty is 6 pounds 13 ounces, with center of gravity at the breech face. Overall length is 48 inches. Barrel finish is polished surface blued steel, with gloss black anodized receiver. Buttstock and forend are plain oil finish Italian Walnut, fluted forend and pistol grip type buttstock with machine cut checkering. Note the factory 1 inch permanent sling swivels on the mag cap and buttstock. Stock drop is the standard 1 1/2 x 2 1/2 inch, with a 14 1/4 inch length of pull from the trigger face to the end of the factory butt plate. This shotgun served to dispatch winged and four legged raiders of the Israeli row crops on a communal farm or Kibbutz. Buttstock heel has a 3 inch lateral crack on both sides, from the butt past the swivel stud, that has been repair and with no separation. Apart from that, surface detractions are moderate, small spots of wear indications here and there. We rate this Franchi as Very Good Condition / stock repair, 80 percent vicinity by our estimate, but photos ought to suffice for our distinguished shoppers to judge finish grade for themselves. Bore, chamber, and mechanism are all bright and clean. From the minimal wear to the shell carrier, we estimate this Franchi has been fired fewer than 300 rounds.
