Charter Arms debuted its Undercover series in 1964, and we began selling them shortly thereafter. Here is Charter’s Undercover in Stainless Steel and Alloy. Manufacturer was Charter Arms of Shelton CT, and so marked. Type is traditional double and single action pocket revolver with transfer bar internal safety device. Construction is stainless steel barrel, cylinder, yoke, pin, hammer, trigger, main frame and steel internal parts combined with a coated alloy grip frame / trigger guard. Caliber is .38 Smith & Wesson Special, with a 5 shot swingout cylinder. Barrel is one piece 2 inch eight groove 1:18 rifling, full lug. Sights are barrel integral serrated blade front, with frame integral fixed notch rear. Trigger is .300 smooth face combat, with .310 short serrated spur hammer. Like most Charters, double action pull is in the 12-13 pound vicinity, with a 4 pound single action pull. Grip panels are factory finger groove combat rubber. Weight empty is 18 ounces, with center of gravity at the cylinder stop. This Undercover comes to us from one of our dealer friends, one of a half dozen or so Charters she had, and we took them off her hands. It is in its original box with instruction manual, YHSA paper, trigger lock, protective wrapper, factory parts list, Charter decal, and a never executed factory registration card. Cylinder rotation marking is minimal to moderate. We do not believe it was ever loaded or fired, only handled in the showroom. We rate it as Mint or Near Mint, Unfired in Box, but photos ought to suffice for our distinguished shoppers to judge finish grade for themselves.
