This is a maple full stock flint conversion. The lock is marked" Pennsylvania Rifle Works" Philadelphia P.A.. This business was owned by a man named G. Dunlap. He made and sold percussion guns. Sometimes he marked his guns. I don't think he is the maker however. This wonderful piece shows so many influences it is remarkable. First of all it is a flint conversion. The bolster is of a drum design that screws in to convert to percussion. The lock doesn't fit completely well. The length of the fully octagon barrel is 32" with an overall length of 47 5/8". It has a very unique " hand forged" butt plate extender.It also has the first hand forged trigger guard that I have ever seen. In fact I have not seen another piece like this ever. There are double trigger. So there is a set trigger in the back and a fire trigger in front.It has a heavy barrel. The barrel is clear and clean. The nipple is clear as well. The bore actually has very good rifling still present. The nipple is not smashed down at all. The wood is all original and has not been messed with. The two ram rod guides as well as the nose cap are brass. The nose cap has some engraving present. More folk art like. The ram rod looks authentic but is probably an old replacement. The ram rod channel is broke out down at the bottom right in front of the trigger guard. Also the top barrel pin near the nose cap is not catching properly so there is a little play in the tightness of the stock to the barrel at that point.This is just a real interesting piece. I have to say it is really a " Back woods gunsmith " special indeed. It has lot's of character and would be a real conversation piece. If it could only talk.
